MSBOA District Band and Orchestra Festival

March 2, 2024

Pioneer High School

The Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) District Band and Orchestra Festival is an opportunity for ensembles from MSBOA member schools to perform a program of three pieces for adjudication.

District-level festivals are held throughout the state's 16 districts from mid-February through mid-March. Ann Arbor Public Schools are members of MSBOA District XII.

Each performing ensemble is evaluated by three performance adjudicators and one sight-reading adjudicator. Each performing group is rated on a scale from "1" to "5" with "1" being the highest rating possible. The overall score is computed using a formula that combines the ratings of each judge.

Participating ensembles that earn a rating of "1" or "2" at District or State Festivals receive a certificate and plaque for display at their school and medals for each student.

The Pioneer Bands and Pioneer Band Association families host the MSBOA District XII Band Festival at Pioneer High School for about a dozen bands. It's a day for PBA parents/siblings to hear great music, watch sight reading, and host a judges/directors' room.

Dates for the MSBOA District Band and Orchestra Festival are announced in class and can be found on the Pioneer Bands Calendar.
